The idea for aDress was born out of a real teenage dilemma. With conversations sweeping across Australia about an impending social media ban for anyone under 16, teenagers were left wondering: how will we plan our outfits for formals, sweet sixteens, and parties without public social media?
Enter Lara. She realized there was a massive need for a safe, private, invite-only space. A place where friends could coordinate looks, hype each other up, and avoid those awkward outfit clashes—without the toxic doom-scrolling, public algorithms, or random followers judging their style.
She envisioned a digital runway exclusive to the actual guest list.
To turn Lara's brilliant idea into reality, her proud father Gavin stepped in to build the application on her behalf.
Gavin has a passion for life, a great sense of humour, two amazing children, and a knack for storytelling. Beyond software, he is the author of gleeful children's books (including Mary the Cow), originally crafted to bring laughter and easy bedtimes to his kids.
Combining his technical expertise with his daughter's visionary concept, Gavin spent his weekends creating aDress. Today, aDress stands as the ultimate pre-event space, proudly built by a father-daughter duo to empower the next generation to celebrate their fashion securely and privately.
